The "One-minute" city concept making streets healthier, more sustainable and full of lifeProject management, Design, Communication, IdentityInnovation and research project 'Street Moves'.The project was made within ArkDes – Sweden's National Centre for Architecture and Design, and funded by Vinnova - Sweden's Innovation Agency. Other project partners included Lundberg Design, Onemotion, Transportstyrelsen - the Swedish Transport Agency, the City of Stockholm, the City of Gothenburg, the City of Helsingborg, Volvo Car Mobility and Voi.The project name was initially "Slow streets, fast cities - designing infrastructure for mobility and public life" initially, but it was renamed to shorter "Street Moves".The goal was to develop physical prototypes for changing the street space through a participatory design process. The project involved stakeholders from both the private and public sectors, who collaborated in a continuous ongoing design process from initial analysis, to idea generation and development of the physical prototypes. The prototypes were placed on streets in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Helsingborg. Through inclusive workshops, the design process continued on the streets with learnings. The project spread also to other cities around Sweden, among others Borlänge, Nacka and Uppsala. The media impact was massive, even abroad, and in many ways exceeded expectations.Street Moves also coined the concept of the "One-minute city", not to be mixed up with the infamous "15-minutes city". The "One-minute city" approach should be seen as supplementary, addressing the immediate space outside peoples door steps.Furthermore, the project interacted with Superblock "Superilla" in Barcelona, and was also actualized on a larger scale in San José, California. Street Moves modules were also installed in some European cities outside of Sweden.Daniel Byström from Design Nation was Project Manager and Design Lead for the original Street Moves 2020-2021, and developed the design in collaboration with Lundberg Design. Program Manager was Filip Kjellgren, and advisor was Dan Hill, Director of Strategic Design at Vinnova.
